PJ63 Encounter

About This Round
Jupiter is not in the JunoCam field of view until about an hour before perijove. That means no opportunity for an inbound one-rotation sequence. We will collect an outbound rotation, but that is primarily over the southern hemisphere. We will get high resolution images of the north polar region from PJ-1hr to PJ-13min. Then the groundtrack crosses to Jupiter's nightside.
Perijove Predict Map
About Perijove Predict Maps

Every perijove pass we have the challenge of predicting where Points of Interest will be as the different zones of the planet have different wind velocities. This map shows our effort to rotate the latitudinal zones with their different wind speeds to predict what will be under the Juno groundtrack.

Winner Selection
Amalthea! But Amalthea is 73,000 km away and only 3.5 pixels across. We will try to image the northern aurora and maybe lightning.
