About This Round
Juno will fly by Io on its approach to Jupiter at a distance of ~87000 km. We will be looking for volcanic eruptions on the limb and as bright spots just beyond the terminator (the division between night and day).
On Jupiter the groundtrack is moving closer to the terminator with every perijove pass. That makes the lighting great for seeing shadows from high clouds cast on the lower level cloud bank.
Perijove Predict Map
About Perijove Predict Maps

Every perijove pass we have the challenge of predicting where Points of Interest will be as the different zones of the planet have different wind velocities. This map shows our effort to rotate the latitudinal zones with their different wind speeds to predict what will be under the Juno groundtrack.

Winner Selection
We will take 10 images of Io including two with long integration times to look for plumes. Where volcanoes on Io are erupting tells us a great deal about what is happening in its interior. On Jupiter the perijove pass is relatively standard since a great deal of data volume was devoted to the Io images.
