MAGNETOSPHERE
Voyager
Jupiter's magnetosphere is filled with all kinds of particles--most of which originate from erupting volcanoes on Jupiter's moon Io. The volcanoes produce sulfur, oxygen, and sodium--all of which were detected by the twin Voyager spacecraft even at the outer edge of the magnetosphere.
In addition, Voyager 1 confirmed scientists' hypothesis that the solar wind gives the magnetosphere its droplet-like shape, which points downwind. Voyager 2 found that the influence of Jupiter's magnetosphere could be felt as far as the orbit of Saturn. Juno will study the magnetosphere--and its constituent particles--in even more detail.
