PJ26 Encounter

About This Round
In a polar orbit Juno seldom passes close to the galilean satellites of Jupiter. PJ26 offers us a rare opportunity to image Io and Europa at moderately close range. The spacecraft will fly by Io at 233,363 km and by Europa at 144,130 km. On Io that means JunoCam can image terrain at 148 km/pixel, and at Europa JunoCam images will be 91 km/pixel. JunoCam will have a good view of the terminator (the day-night boundary) on both moons, so our goal will be to look for any sign of an eruption, similar to the volcanic eruption imaged on Io on PJ17.
Perijove Predict Map
About Perijove Predict Maps

Every perijove pass we have the challenge of predicting where Points of Interest will be as the different zones of the planet have different wind velocities. This map shows our effort to rotate the latitudinal zones with their different wind speeds to predict what will be under the Juno groundtrack.

Winner Selection
In addition to images of Io and Europa we will acquire high resolution images of the circumpolar cyclones at Jupiter's north and south pole, Oval BA, and the South Temperate domain. As the closest approach moves northward the the images show ever more detail in the turbulent region at high northern latitudes.
