About This Round
Juno is coming in from the nightside of Jupiter, approaching the north pole. We have reached the jovian winter solstice so the northern pole is in darkness while the south pole experiences summer. Our closest approach (perijove) latitude has reached 20N, so the northern hemisphere pass is quick and close. In contrast we have a lengthy view of the southern hemisphere on the outbound leg of the trajectory. This enables a timelapse sequence to study the south polar circumpolar cyclones as Juno leaves Jupiter in the distance.
